Abstract
On February 3, 2011 IANA handed out the last IPv4-address blocks to the regional registries. It's time for IPv6. This session covers the IPv6 deployment strategy for mobile service providers using CDMA, GPRS/UMTS and migrating towards Long Term Evolution (LTE) with the Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The session reviews the IPv6 capabilities of the different mobile architectures –and discusses the corresponding mobility and addressing features. This includes IPv4 and IPv6 interactions with various element such as SGSN/GGSN, SGW/PDN-GW, PDSN/HA, etc. The session also covers IPv6 transition strategies and their application to mobile architectures discussing different options such as dual-stack, and gateway initiated dual-stack lite, including the most recent updates from IETF and 3GPP. Design considerations for Large Scale NAT (LSN), Address-Family-Translation (AFT), and inter-working on IPv4 & IPv6 will be touched upon. Choosing the right IPv6 deployment strategy is key to success and will be differentiating in industry.
