    Abstract
One of the most important problems of Vietnamese Power Companies is Loss Reduction. It is
estimated that from 5% to 13% of the total power system generation is wasted in the form RI2
loss at the distribution level. Distribution systems supply power to three basic load types,
residential, commercial, and industrial. The load profiles for each of the these load types are
more different, causing the distribution feeders to become more heavily loaded at the certain
times of the day and less heavily loaded at other times. This shifting of the system load can be
used to minimize, or at least reduce the system load by reconfiguring the system from time to
time in order to redistribute the load currents more efficiently. Much of recent research on
Distribution Automation has focused on the minimum-loss configuration problem. While an
exhaustive search of all possible configurations would provide the most accurate and reliable
solution, this is unrealistic as it takes a long time for a real-time application. Heuristics
techniques are proposed for finding the optimal or near-optimal solution with fast
computation time. In the present work, a comparison of the more promising methods of realtime
reconfiguration for loss reduction is conducted. The methods are compared on
simulations based on a model of 15KV Hochiminh Utility Networks.
features provided by Distribution Automation, which can result in substantial savings for the
utility, is feeder reconfiguration for loss reduction .This work provides a comparison of
various methods applied to feeder reconfiguration for loss minimization. Network
reconfiguration in distribution systems is realized by changing the status of sectionalizing and
switches and is usually done for loss reduction. The distribution reconfiguration belongs to a
complex combinatorial optimization problem. This is because there are multiple constraint,
which must not be violated while finding an optimal or near optimal solution to the
distribution network reconfiguration problem. Consequently, to solve the problem with
implementation simplicity, computation efficiency, solution feasibility and optimality, an
improved method based on a modified genetic algorithm (GA). The distribution network
reconfiguration model, in which the objective is to minimize the system power loss, is
presented in this paper with application to 16 – bus for 13 point loads and a real application
    network of Mauritius.
