ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider the process of setting up a lightpath in WDM networks with sparse wavelength
conversion. We propose a novel probe packet format for the destination initiated reservation (DIR)
signalling scheme to be used with any routing function to collect route status information. In addition, we
propose a wavelength assignment algorithm that minimizes the number of wavelength conversion used
along the route.
