    ABSTRACT

Recently, human has switched their focus into renewable energy. It has been considered the safe and clean, environment-friendly energy source. Within the past 10 years, renewable energy such as wind and solar energy have become more and more widely used. Still, their low efficiency is the brake that keeps them from receiving the right investment. They are still seen as the future rather than the replacement for daily use energy source we use nowadays. It’s a good news to hear that governments throughout the world have plan for wind energy, which can only be invested at some specific location where experts indicate that wind can be extracted with high efficiency. As for household uses, wind and solar energy should be taken into consideration as energy sources which can be stored. This is the aim our thesis has locked on.
In the first part, we are going to briefly introduce the overall picture of Vietnamese energy source as well as the government’s plans for developing large size wind turbines along the coast. Prior to the end of chapter 2, we will introduce some basic concepts on the wind turbine.
The mechanical design part shall be found on chapter 3, where blade design and generators are the main point we want to emphasize. We will also show why gearbox is necessary instead of the direct-drive method.
Chapter 4 will mostly concentrate on the charge controller and battery storage. The last part of this chapter will be about inverter, which is the footstep leads to the field of grid-tied synchronization.
Chapter 5 will introduce photovoltaic cell, array and module before showing why and how the solar panel needs battery bank. Once that was done, we will proceed to the wind and solar hybrid home power system in which the charge controller is everything to talk about.
Chapter 6 is a little different from the rest of the thesis, since it only focuses on introducing Control and Grid Synchronization for Distributed Power Generation Systems. No deep knowledge would be found on this chapter, though.
Toward the end of the thesis, we will summarize what we have and have not done; which lead to further development suggestion.
