Genetic association studies investigate the relationship between gene polymorphisms and risk of disease or treatment outcome. Furthermore, due to advances in molecular targeted treatment technologies and the continual expansion of translational re-search, genetic association studies play a key role in the development of new therapeutical targets. For these reasons the number of genetic association studies is increasing rapidly and this trend is expected to accelerate due to the availability of mapped singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the human genome and advances in genotyping technologies [1].
