The presence of tattoos on the skin of people of all ages is on the rise. Many studies have been done of the tattooed population. The Journal of the Amer i can Academy of Dermatology published the results of a telephone survey which took place in 2004: it found that 36% of Americans ages 18–29, 24% of those 30-40 and 15% of those 41-51 had a tattoo. Men are just slightly more likely to have a tattoo than women (15% versus 13%).
