Parvovirus B19 (B19) is a common virus with multiple clinical presentations. Infection in children is typically seen as erythema infectiosum,or fifth disease (1), while adults often experience arthropathy lasting up to several months (2). Autoantibodies are often found subsequent to B19 infection, and are as-sociated with arthropathy (3-5). In patients with chronic hemolytic anemias, such as sickle cell disease or hereditary spherocytosis,(6). B19 infection is implicated in hepatitis non-A-E acute fulminant liver failure (7-16). Although these are the best-described clinical illnesses caused by B19, the virus has been implicated in a wide spectrum of other illnesses (17). B19 infects a variety of cell types, but predominantly replicates in erythroid precursors (18).
