Nucleophosmin (NPM1), also known as B23, encoded by the NPM1 gene maps to chromosome band 5q35 in humans [1]. NPM1 is an abundant and ubiquitously expressed phosphoprotein that plays important roles in regulation of multiple cellular functions, such as ribosome biogenesis and transport [2], centrosome duplication [3] and stress responses [4]. In addition, NPM1 is also essential for embryonic development; and it’s inactivation in the germ line leads to a series of developmental defects and em-bryonic lethality at mid-gestation [5, 6].
