Although psychotropic medications have been used for the treatment of psychiatric disorders for more than 50years, less attention has been given to their utilization forthe treatment of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. The limited number of systematic, controlledstudies to assess the safety and efficacy of psychotropicmedications for children, and the psychodynamic orientation of the majority of child psychiatrists [1,2], reinforcesthe hesitation and reluctance of parents to administersuch medications to their children.
